About this product

Product Information

In the little town of Lake Wobegon, a "wedding" is planned down to the last detail, from the cheese and pt to the flying Elvis to the pontoon boat. Meanwhile, the surprising secret life of a recently deceased good Lutheran lady comes to light, her daughter meets a lover at the Romeo Motel, and a delegation of renegade Lutheran pastors from Denmark comes to town. That's just the beginning of the stories and characters that drift in on Pontoon . It's Lake Wobegon as you've imagined it: a tightly knit community that sometimes draws you home and sometimes gives you wings to fly away.

  • Fun Book

This is the first Garrison Keillor book we've listened to. I've seen his tv show, and found it mildly humorous, so I didn't have high expectations. It turned out a better book than we expected, although the "plot" was reasonably predictable. A lot of great humor and easy to visualize scenes. Keillor does a great job of creating word pictures of the events in the book. There are a couple of "R" rated sections or at least "PG13" but they only add humor. I recommend it.

  • Not your typical Garrison Keillor

I don't know of anything else he has done like this one. It starts out with a woman's death & is not your typical make-you-laugh G.Keillor. I've even thought about not finishing it which would be pretty unusual for me. Just don't buy it thinking you are getting something laugh-out-loud. So far, it's all pretty sad (the stories not the writing).

  • More news from Lake Wobegone

Beginning with the death of one of Lake Wobegone' s most influential women, the story weaves through the familiar and not so familiar characters of Lake Wobegone. I found myself laughing out loud and reflecting upon my youth wondering if I was ever that irresponsible. In his usual fashion, Garrison Keillor adds another edition to his mythology, full of pain, suffering and the uniqueness of home and family.

  • Very typical Garrison Keillor work.

Super funny account from the folks of Lake Woebegon.

  • Wonderful

I loved this book. Garrison Keillor has such a soothing voice and the book is very much like his stories he tells on public radio about Lake Woebegone. It was very entertaining and my mind did not wander at all when I listened to this book.
